Privacy Policy

How Afterglow processes the information needed to run accounts, rooms, connections, safety tools and optional purchases.

About this policy

Afterglow is a moderated, adults-only social space for joining low-light rooms, meeting people, and staying in touch by mutual consent. This policy explains the personal information we process when you use the Afterglow app and how you can control it.

At a glance. We use the information needed to run your account, rooms, connections, safety tools, and optional purchases. We do not sell your personal information or show third-party advertising. Precise location is not shared with other members, and live-room audio is not recorded continuously or retained as raw room audio.

1. Who is responsible for your information

Afterglow is responsible for the information described in this policy. For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, email karlarosen58@icloud.com with the subject “Privacy request.” We may need to verify that a request is from the account holder before acting on it.

2. Information we collect

Account and profile information

When you sign in or create an account, we process your email address and the authentication information required to keep your account secure. Your profile may include a display name, avatar, interests, after-work availability, and selected city. You decide which optional profile details to provide.

Room, connection, and safety activity

We process the content and activity needed to run the service: room messages, room participation, gifts and shared effects, connection requests and direct messages, the people you block, and reports you submit. If you choose to upload a photo, image, or voice message to a connection, we process that file and the message metadata needed to deliver it.

Voice and microphone information

Your microphone is used only after you actively turn voice on in a voice-enabled room or choose to record a voice message. Live-room audio may pass through a real-time safety-risk check to help detect harmful conduct. Afterglow does not listen continuously and does not retain raw live-room audio as a room archive. A voice message you intentionally send is user content and is retained with that message until it is deleted or no longer needed for the service.

City, device, and app settings

You select a supported city manually so Afterglow can show relevant rooms and local room times. Afterglow does not request, infer, or store your device location. We also process app settings and technical information needed to provide the service, such as notification and microphone permission status, app version, device/operating-system information, and diagnostics needed to investigate failures or abuse.

Purchase information

If you buy Chill, the relevant app store processes your payment. Afterglow receives the transaction information needed to grant and restore the purchase, such as product identifier, purchase status, receipt or transaction identifier, and purchase time. We do not receive or store your full payment-card details.

3. How and why we use information

We use information to:

  • create and secure accounts, show profiles, and operate rooms, connections, gifts, and optional purchases;
  • show room times in the city you select and deliver notifications you ask to receive;
  • apply our Community Guidelines, investigate reports, detect technical or safety risks, prevent fraud and abuse, and protect members and the service;
  • respond to support requests, maintain records required by law, and improve reliability and accessibility; and
  • communicate important service, safety, account, and policy updates.

Where required by law, we rely on the performance of our agreement with you, our legitimate interests in running a safe and reliable service, your consent for optional permissions, and compliance with legal obligations.

4. Who can see information and when we share it

Other members can see information that you choose to make visible in the service, such as your display name, avatar, selected profile details, room messages, and activity that is designed to be visible to room participants. Direct messages and connection media are shared with the connection you choose to send them to. A connection is created only when both people agree.

We use service providers that help us host the app and files, deliver notifications, process app-store billing, provide security or moderation support, and maintain the service. They may process information only on our instructions and for these purposes. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to a valid legal request, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or as part of a corporate transaction. We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party behavioral advertising.

5. Retention and deletion

Room text archives are read-only and are retained for 30 days after a room ends, then deleted or made unavailable. We keep account, profile, connection, and message information for as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal, security, dispute-resolution, and recordkeeping needs.

You can request account deletion from Settings. Deleting an account permanently removes your profile, connections, messages, reports, and room archives from the service, subject to limited copies that must be kept for legal, fraud-prevention, security, or backup-recovery purposes for the minimum time necessary. Content another member has already received may remain in that member’s view until it is removed under the service’s normal controls or retention rules.

6. Your choices and rights

You can update profile information, choose or change a city, adjust notification settings, and review or revoke device permissions in your device settings. You can block members, report content, delete your account, and contact us to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data-protection authority.

To make a request, email karlarosen58@icloud.com. We will respond in accordance with applicable law and may ask for information to verify your identity and protect your account.

7. Security, children, and international processing

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Please use a unique password and keep account credentials private.

Afterglow is not for anyone under 18. Do not use the service or provide personal information if you are under 18. Information may be processed where Afterglow and its service providers operate; where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the service, legal requirements, or our practices change. We will post the revised policy in the app with a new effective date and, where required, give you additional notice or ask for consent.
